Further sports facilities include squash courts, two dance/multi-purpose studios, a 120-station fitness suite and a 6-court sports hall incorporating retractable seating for up to 900 for use as a multi-purpose events venue. All facilities are arranged around a central naturally lit social space.
The ‘OurPlace’ youth club is operated independently but integrated architecturally. It sits towards the front of the site with an active street frontage, which in both rhythm and scale integrates into the surrounding neighbourhood. A dramatic roofline and LED wall draws visitors from the street through a new public square towards the main entrance to the leisure centre.
The scheme was designed to meet the BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and renewable energy is produced through a biomass boiler.
