Head of Digital Design (Global)

Location: any Broadway Malyan studio

Responsibilities of the role:

Team Leadership:

  • Lead the digital design team, including Revit Content Specialists, BIM Management, Design Application Specialists, Computational Design, and CAD and visualization teams.
  • Optimize, maintain, develop, and support the Digital Design platform, collaborating with internal stakeholders (IT Director, Head of Information and Knowledge Sharing) and external clients.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain the digital development strategy, including visualization, all software applications interfaces, and data-driven environments.
  • Establish a digital design skills framework for Architecture, Interiors, and Masterplanning across all practice disciplines, sections, and locations.
  • Contribute to departmental performance management and integrate good digital design practices into the practice’s change management and continuous improvement processes.
  • Promote self-leadership and understanding within the department.

Business Liaison:

  • Ensure consistent and quality communication within the Digital team, including the IT and Information and Knowledge Sharing heads, as well as studio leads, aligning external communications with business objectives and the overall digital strategy.
  • Foster collaboration and effective knowledge sharing across the practice, maintaining documentation and training strategies.
  • Align digital design strategies with business objectives from project procurement to delivery.
  • Guide project leaders on tool usage and working methods to build a skilled user base across disciplines and locations.

External Relationship Management:

  • Implement the practice’s Digital Design and BIM strategy.
  • Develop and implement project-based BIM strategies, liaising with clients, consultants, contractors, and sub-contractors.
  • Define project-based BIM deliverables, pricing strategy, and monitor external consultants' performance.
  • Select, monitor, and review digital design technology suppliers.
  • Participate in industry networks for continuous improvement opportunities.

Budget Setting and Management:

  • Provide foresight, planning, and feedback on budgetary expenditures, ensuring effective budget management.

Procurement:

  • Achieve best value in IT expenditure and forecast budget requirements, services, and training material.
  • Consult with IT and practice stakeholders on business requirements for hardware, systems, software, or services before procurement.
  • Ensure effective negotiation and understanding of procurement implications and lifecycle costs.

Asset Management:

  • Manage software licensing deployment and maintenance.
  • Maintain a calendar for key renewal dates to ensure timely negotiation and procurement.
  • Document and disseminate third-party service level agreements (SLAs) information, ensuring internal SLA adherence.

Service Maturity and Management:

  • Implement the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework for the digital design team.
  • Assess incidents and change requests to identify problems and resolution strategies addressed by end users.
  • Liaise between first, second, and third-line resolvers to expedite incident resolution, including third-party escalation when necessary, through a third-party consultancy.
  • Maintain a reporting regime to inform future decisions, budgeting, personnel development, data maintenance, and project prioritization.
  • Prioritize support for key practice users of digital design technology.

Standards and Compliance:

  • Deliver appropriate Digital Design and Industry technology standards.
  • Ensure team alignment with standards implementation and ongoing maintenance.
  • Stay updated on industry-related standards changes and their implications.

Research and Development:

  • Channel R&D efforts to deliver potential business benefits.
  • Monitor and document R&D efforts within the Digital governance model.

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:

  • Develop, maintain, and test the Disaster Recovery plan for digital design responsibilities in conjunction with the IT Director.
  • Ensure holistic recovery processes for the Digital Design function, including regular testing and feedback with third-party assistance.

Cyber Security:

  • Contribute to the maintenance of the cyber security framework.
  • Promote user awareness and best practices for cyber security.

Infrastructure Management:

  • Collaborate with the infrastructure team to manage infrastructure for digital design activities, including cloud services, networking, servers, storage, printing, and high-performance computing.
  • Work with third-party providers to deliver a cohesive service.

Application Ownership:

  • Manage digital design applications throughout their lifecycle, including specification, procurement, licensing, implementation, deployment, maintenance, customization, integration, documentation, user support, and upgrade cycles.
  • Foster relationships between application owners, users, specialist software application leaders, and external parties.

Digital Design Programme Management:

  • Manage and plan Digital Design and Visualization projects.
  • Liaise with project participants and practice stakeholders.
  • Ensure project delivery, reporting, and documentation, utilizing BM's Digital Design and third-party resources.
  • Identify and plan resource requirements for successful project delivery.
