HRH The Princess Royal Officially Opens The Quad
15th October 2024

A new digital innovation hub at the heart of the proposed Station Quarter in Telford has been opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.

The Quad is owned by Telford & Wrekin Council, and its occupiers are a combination of further and higher education providers and associated employers. The building has been designed to facilitate and encourage the development of a range of high-value tech skills, from both a learning and workplace perspective.

Designed by Broadway Malyan, the new building forms a unique partnership between education and employment, creating an ecosystem that seamlessly supports students as they transition from learning to the workplace.

The building’s architecture is simple and unobtrusive, featuring a patchwork brick façade that reflects the area's industrial heritage. Less than five miles away is the forge where Abraham Darby first smelted iron ore with coke, during the start of the Industrial Revolution.

The Quad's ground floor is a flexible space for collaboration, featuring touchdown areas, informal meeting zones, a town hall space and an F&B offering. The first floor is occupied by Telford College, focused on tech-enabled learning for maths and digital subjects. Harper Adams University occupies the second floor, with labs dedicated to engineering, robotics and AI research. The third floor serves as a business incubator hub, supporting start-ups inspired by the innovations on the second floor.

The Quad is the first built element of the new masterplan developed by Turley and will include nearly 200 new homes, commercial space, and a new public realm connecting the quarter to the nearby Telford Station.
