Established in 2012 by Sally Lewis, Stitch has earned a reputation for successfully tackling complex urban sites, delivering high-quality, distinctive developments across a variety of tenure types. The practice prides itself on respecting streets as the lifeblood of place, understanding existing communities, and the emotional connections that ultimately make a neighbourhood.
Housing architect Stitch has joined global urbanism practice Broadway Malyan to strengthen and expand both practice’s capabilities in the design and delivery of homes across the UK.
Stitch’s portfolio of housing projects includes successive phases of mixed tenure homes at Acton Gardens, a suite of small infill sites across Croydon optimised for new housing, the Marlowe Road Estate regeneration and several sites within the Old Kent Road Opportunity Area, Southwark.
Broadway Malyan was established in 1958 and has grown from its roots in the South East of England to be one of the most globally active UK-based architecture and urbanism practices. The practice operates from studios across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, working at a range of scales from regional masterplanning to architecture and interiors. Working at multiple scales across diverse geographies, the Broadway Maylan group delivers a global portfolio of projects covering commercial, residential, hospitality, retail, destination and logistics.

Stitch’s flexible approach to design, eschewing architectural preconceptions, places the user experience as the driver of the design process. This approach chimes with Broadway Malyan’s place-focused approach to housing at different scales, from individual homes to neighbourhoods and urban extensions.
The incorporation of Stitch will further Broadway Malyan’s reputation for delivering housing across a range of tenure types and scales in the South East, Midlands and North West. The Stitch’s expertise will particularly benefit the group’s market reach in regeneration and infill sites in and around London. Broadway Malyan’s current housing work includes large scale masterplans for the former Pilkington site in St Helens and at Davenport Green in Greater Manchester as well as residential schemes in Leeds and Bristol.

Well regarded amongst existing clients and as an industry voice, Sally Lewis already enjoys a respected position in dialogue on housing delivery, social inclusion and furthering opportunities within the industry for those with a background of disadvantage. She has established the successful London Neighbourhood Scholarship Trust, a charity that engages support from London’s built environment community to offer career support to local young people studying architecture, leading to a more diverse and equitable future industry.
“We’re delighted to welcome the Stitch to Broadway Malyan. Sally and her team have built a fantastic reputation for designing new homes that benefit and enhance their context, whilst responding to the needs of present and future residents.
